We happened to be on a cruise on Valentine’s Day (more on that — and travel in general— to come!) And so, we took a risk when booking this meal. We decided to make a reservation at the restaurant overhanging the water for its ambiance, but we weren’t able to preview the menu in advance...
So, it was a roll of the dice. But we knew we always had the buffet as a backup if we needed to go there for some extra protein after (more on navigating a buffet to come, as well!).
We let the staff know right away that we are gluten-free and they said they were able to accommodate us. And surprise! The prix-fixe menu turned out to be a Migraine-Miracle friendly bounty of nutrient-dense goodness!
We started with a burrata appetizer. It was served over arugula and a few cherry tomato halves (we skipped the tomatoes). And while we don’t eat a lot of dairy normally, we do love burrata. Because it isn’t aged, we consider it a “safer” cheese.
Next up was a platter of chilled seafood — lobster, crab, shrimp, and oysters. We didn’t eat the cocktail sauce but had some of the vinegar mignonette with the oysters.
The main entree couldn’t have been more perfect for us. We had an assortment of meats to share: garlic and herb (skin-on — perfect!!) branzino, lobster tails, and roasted chateaubriand beef.
A dish of grilled veggies accompanied our meat bonanza, also served family-style. I ate some of the grilled squash, zucchini, and asparagus, as did Josh. He, however, also ate a few of the potatoes. I skipped the potatoes to keep my carbs lower as that works better for me for beast-prevention!
The prix-fixe meal did include a dessert, but we declined as we usually do. It had been the perfect meal already and we were more than satiated, so it didn’t feel like a sacrifice.
And here’s the bit that might interest you in terms of strategy… we were pretty full after the meal, which was more food than we typically eat in the evening. (We also were assigned a 7 p.m. reservation time, which we normally would never do as we try to eat by about 6 p.m. to keep a good buffer before bedtime!) So to help burn off a bit of that excess energy, we walked a few laps around the ship after dinner, and then we also fasted until late afternoon the next day to give ourselves a little extra insurance!
